All right, now I'm mad. I've officialy received my first spam comment, and I don't think I can delete it. As soon as I finish writing this post I have to see about word verification. In happier news, here is a picture of dinner (don't mind the food and junk in the background, I'm cleaning up our kitchen, and while it's almost done, there's still some stuff just lying around):
In the small bowl on the left, we have Glazed Plantains (this is a recipe from a book called The Healthiest Diet in the World, by Nikki and Dave Goldbeck), it consists of plantains, fruit sweetened orange marmalade, orange juice (freshly made using oranges Rachel brought home), and cayenne pepper. How we love glazed plantains!
Next we have a variation on Spanish Millet from The Passionate Vegetarian by Crescent Dragonwagon. My variation has: red and yellow peppers* (I was also going to use a jalapeno but I forgot), red onion*, garlic*, millet* (in case anyone was wondering why it's so dark, I cooked the millet in black bean cooking liquid), tomato paste, tabasco, and cilantro*.
And last but not least we have Tropical "Refried" Black Beans. This was very good if I do say so myself (I made it up). This had in it: black beans, papaya*, pineapple and lime juices, and ground ginger and cayenne.
Don't forget that this (*) means food Rachel brought home from work.
That reminds me, it's time for our daily roundup of food Rachel brought home. Yesterday she brought home:
swiss chard, kale, collards (what did I tell you about her bringing them home on a week to week basis?), cilantro, lettuce (yay, I was hoping she would bring home some lettuce!), some more sprouts, umm, what else? Oh yeah, some more apples, an orange and a grapefruit, two plums (one is not ripe yet, and the other is not ripe but is just weird), agghh, memory loss, I knew I should have written it down! Some other stuff that I just can't remember.
Alright, now that that's done, here's what I ate yesterday (Should I just get a blog for this?):
Some grapes* (from South Africa. It doesn't make me happy but as I've said before, I don't like wasting things.)
soy yogurt
oatmeal with flax oil and gomashio
grated carrot and chickpeas with nutritional yeast and Peppery House Dressing
Kale pita sandwiches (this is from Ecological cooking. It basically is just steamed kale tossed with garlic powder and lemon juice, then stuffed into a pita that has been spread with mustard.) Deelicious!
some more grapes
ricemilk
Our lovely dinner. To refresh your memory....
Glazed Plantains
Spanish Millet
Tropical "Refried" Black Beans
ricemilk
Tonight I'm thinking something Italian, but I haven't formulated a menu yet, so we'll see. (By the way, I'm part Italian, part Irish, Part Austrian, and Part Russian.)
See you all later!
