Open Sesame

I forgot to post about how the sugarless power muffins (from La Dolce Vegan) that I made the other day came out, so I'm doing it now. They weren't as crumbly as I thought they would be, but they were still a little bit crumbly. As far as the taste goes, they didn't have a weird oops-I-put-too-much-stevia-in-them taste, but they were just so so plain. After I spread (as best I could) almond butter on them, they tasted much better. Overall, they were good enough that I would make them again.

I suppose you could say I was on a sesame kick yesterday, because......

1. Yesterday's dinner consisted of cold sesame noodles. I took a recipe for peanut sauce and used tahini instead. For the noodle part I used whole wheat spaghetti that Rachel brought home a few days ago (the bag was busted or something), then I mixed it with the noodles and added leftover sauteed shredded carrots. Sprinkled on top are black sesame seeds.

2. I made gomashio. Sesame seeds and salt = goodness! How I love gomashio.

I didn't think the noodles were very flavorful, so I sprinkled them with the gomashio. Everything tastes better with gomashio, don't you think?

3. The adzuki bean hummus I made had tahini in it. You can find the recipe on my other blog.
Served up with carrot sticks, snow peas*, red pepper strips*, broccoli*, yellow pepper strips*, and celery sticks*. My mom also ate it with rice crackers Rachel brought home. Yum!

Yesterday night we went to TSL to see a movie called Getting Out (*note* I couldn't find a link for the movie). It was about prisoners at Sing Sing taking part in a theater program. One of the ex-prisoners was speaking afterwards and he read one of his poems. Here is a little blip about him. The movie was really touching; if anyone ever gets to see it I think they would really enjoy it.

This afternoon we had the pleasure of going to see a young violinist, Augustin Hadelich, performing pieces from Beethoven, Debussy, Paginini, and others for free!

My family is really lucky in that we get to see so many great performances, and that we've always been surrounded by the arts. I live in the Hudson Valley, and the arts are really alive here. In fact, I live only a few minutes from Thomas Cole's home, Cedar Grove, and across the river is Frederic Church's home, Olana. My parents used to own an antique store, so I grew up surrounded by artsy people (some real, others so phony it's not even funny). Bard College is about 40 minutes away, and we used to go to a lot of performances there. We still go, just not as much as we used to. Mikhail Baryshnikov is going to be dancing there in a few days! (We aren't going, I just thought that was exciting.)

I guess that's enough rambling for today, see ya!

looks great! Are you really only 15? You are so mature for your age. I have an almost 15 year old son and he's light years away from your maturity level.

Yep, I'm only 15, though my birthday is in about a week. I think it's partly due to the fact that I'm the youngest of my sisters, so I was around a lot experiences because of them.
