As you all might know, I was working for three days last week at a cafe, filling in while the dishwasher was on vacation. She actually decided to stay on vacation longer, so now I'm working till Thursday. I love my job! I know being a dishwasher doesn't sound too fun, but the people I work with are awesome. Also, it's not that bad because they have a heavy duty restaurant style dishwasher, so I just rinse the dishes off, pop them in the dishwasher, and then when they're done, I put them away. There are a few baking sheets that are too large to fit in the dishwasher so I wash them by hand, but it's all good. They normally have vegan soups, so that's really cool. That's what I've been eating down there, but there's also other vegan food. Yesterday their soup of the day was chilled carrot ginger, especially welcome and delicious on a sweltering day like yesterday. They have some kind of platter (I forget the name of it) that has baba ganoush, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, and some other stuff that I'm forgetting on it. Cool, huh? Another cool thing is it's only an 8 minute walk from my house to the cafe , give or take a few cars driving by and not letting me, a pedestrian, cross the street. I'll have you know that's illegal in my town. They've had this law (that drivers must yield to pedestrians) in effect for about 4 years now, but nobody ever follows the law. Every year the police say they're going to crack down on this law, but in fact, the problem seems to be getting worse (maybe because of the summer?). A few days ago there was a steady stream of cars for about 3 minutes, and nobody let me cross the street. Hmmph.
Anyway, when my friend leaves to go back to school in California, I'm going to be taking over her job as bus-girl.
That's all!

I see you are making your introduction into the work world of food. Many years ago I filled in as dishwasher for a friend who owned a restaurant. I didn't mind it either. I've never been a bus girl though. I was a waitress for a summer.
your post is very refreshing. we sometimes tend to overlook the good things about our jobs. i am a software developer. about two years ago, i got really burned out and took a job as a waitress for a few months. i really enjoyed it ! i hope you enjoy your new position as well. keep us posted.
Great news on the job! I loved my first couple jobs - especially waitressing at a cafe. The soup sounds so refreshing in description alone~
Hey, that's great you are enjoying your job. I love mine too! I've been doing the same type of thing for like 22 years now!!!
People in cars tend to forget about people who are walking, biking, running, skating, etc. I try to remember to be kind and courteous when I drive. It would be nice if others had the same 'tude, but there are plenty of times I recall me and/or Mattie having some close calls on walk/jogs thanks to bad "carma."
My first job aside from babysitting was working in the dietary division (read: making food in the kitchen and cleaning it up!) of a hospital for people with eating disorders and drug addiction. VERY interesting job. I didn't like making the meat/chicken/fish stuff but I loved piddling around in the kitchen with veggies and grains and the like...
It's so nice to have a job you enjoy. Good food for thought in this post. Nice too focus on the positives. :)
Very cool about your job! I'll bet you will very soon work your way up in that restaurant... you have a lot to offer..
Hello Primary! Definitely agree with Melody! You should try our way up the kitchen ladder! I bet customers would love the change!
Beside for this, we have not heard back from you about the button we offered to design for every participant of the Cooking With Quinoa contes over at The Vegan Club. Therefore, we have gone ahead and designed one for you!
You can see our tentative design here: http://www.geocities.com/wildtreehugger/primayconsumer.jpg
Do not feel bad at all if you decide not to put it up! We know well these are not really useful! However, we would have not paid the due tribute to your great recipe and your sporty participation without doing it for you! Should you want modifications done (or a radically different design) get in touch!
